MARY KOM, a Priyanka Chopra movie revolves around a boxer who returns back to the ring after passing through the motherhood phase. It gives a new perspective about the lives of athletes who endure difficulties not only in their career but also in their personal life. PANGA, Kangana Ranaut starrer, is another movie on this sports-related topic. This movie gives an insight into how the lives of female athletes are affected throughout their careers.  Let’s analyze whether this movie is up to standards? Or does it attract the audience or fails to portray the central idea.

About Kangana Ranaut’s “PANGA” Movie

PANGA has a nice portrayal of small-town life with a major emphasis on the lives of Jaya’s family and their day-to-day activities. The first day shows a lot of happenings, day starts with Jaya skipping the sports day and getting scolded by Adi, her flashbacks, and practice session. The first half is almost 51 minutes long, the other half is however 1 hour and 18 minutes longer. The second part could have been made shorter. It is heartwarming to see how Java manages her family and the never-ending conflicts of her career. Another thing that makes the movie dialogue dull and boring is its slow pace, some scenes are a bit exaggerated. Jaya missing out on the practice sessions is portrayed many times.

The major focus is on Kangana Ranaut, even though supporting characters also perform well. She delivers a brilliant performance, dialogue delivery is magnificent. She clings to her character throughout the movie. Kangana never fails to amaze the audience with her exceptional acting. Jaya as a mother is responsible and strong, but she as a player is easygoing. Yagya Bhasin is that character that always spikes the audience’s mood in many instances. Jassie Gill is supportive and has a lovely role but he smirks a lot that makes him a bit of satire.

Richa Chada is playing a major role as well. She supports Jaya at many points in her struggling life. Neena Gupta ( Jaya’s mother) is just okay. Rajesh Tailang ( Indian national coach) performs well in the movie. Megha Burman ( Nisha Das) comes late on the screen but leaves the audience stunned with her performance. Other actors like Smita Dwivedi ( Smita Tambe), Sudhanva Despande ( her coach), and Kusum Shastri (Jaya’s neighbor character) performed well.

If we talk about the music, even though the composition is from none other than Shankar Ehsaan Loy. The music does not have the impact it should have. All the songs are not that catchy as they were expected from Shankar’s composition. ‘Bibby Song’ the main track and ‘Jugnu’ are fine but ‘Dil Ne Kaha and the song ‘Wahi Hain Raste’ are sort of boring. The background music by Ankit Balhara and Sanchit Balhara is precisely nice but comparatively much louder at many times. That gives a louder sound than normal and distracts the audience.

The cinematography is brilliant in major Kabaddi scenes but lacks effectiveness at many times as well. Sandeep Meher’s production design is commendable. Sunita Vidhwad Rao ( Kabaddi co-ordinator), Abdul Salam Ansari ( Kabaddi action director), Gauri Wadekar ( Kabaddi coach) also deserve the praise.  also deserves the praise. Rushi Sharma, Bhagyashree Rajurkar, and Manosh Nath’s costumes go well with the characters. Ballu Saluja’s editing lacks many things which should have been much improved.

As a matter of fact, PANGA is a heartwarming sports drama that is an average movie based on its storyline, dialogues, movements, and extraordinary Kangana’s performance. This movie faced competition with Street Dancer 3D and Tanha Ji; The Unsung Warrior. Such a tough competition makes it harder for Panga to succeed at Box office. This movie is good to watch despite its shortcomings.
