Steve Harvey was born on January 17, 1957, in Welch, West Virginia. His father Jesse Harvey was a coal miner, while his mother Eloise Harvey was a housewife. He was the youngest of his four siblings. For some financial reasons, they had to move to Cleveland, Ohio, where Harvey graduated from high school. Following his graduation, he moved back to West Virginia to get a higher university education. After university he did odd jobs like boxing, delivering mail, and even selling insurance, etc.
Career As A Solo Comedian
Harvey could never find his niche until he got a chance to start performing the stand-up comedy in 1985. Initially, he performed on small stages as a One Man comedian for four years, but he found real success when in 1989, he reached the finals for the Second Annual Johnnie Walker National Comedy Search in 1989.
In 1993 He got an opportunity to take over as host Showtime at the Apollo in 1993. The show lasted for seven years and ended in 2000. For six years of his comedian career, from 1996 until 2002 Steve Harvey had his own sitcom on the WB Network. The show was named, ‘The Steve Harvey Show’, which collected great appreciation. This show formed a relationship between him and Cedric the Entertainer, who became his partner on the Kings of Comedy Tour.
In that tour D.L. Hughley, and Bernie Mac also accompanied them. Fortunately, this tour became the highest-grossing comedy tour to date in American history.
