Rivalry between MS Dhoni and Parthiv Patel
Parthiv Patel was one of the wicket keepers who tried to cement his place in Team India before MS Dhoni made it to the Test team. Like every other wicket keeper, Parthiv too could not redeem most of the opportunities and was dropped from the team.
Dhoni, who made his Test debut in 2005, continued to play in this format for Team India for the next 9 years, of which he also captained the team for 6 years. This meant that there was no chance for any other wicket keeper-batsman to make a place in the playing eleven.
It was in the absence of Dhoni that either Parthiv Patel or Dinesh Karthik got a chance in the team. At the same time, when Wriddhiman Saha’s entry into the Test team after Dhoni, his leaf was completely cleared, otherwise he was the second wicketkeeper for the overseas tours.
35-year-old Parthiv Patel also had to compete with Rishabh Pant, who made his Test debut in 2018.
Parthiv Patel, who played 25 Test matches for India, recalled his competition with Dhoni, saying that he had accepted the situation and set his standard after being dropped. Parthiv said that you have to accept the current situation with truth.
