Netflix recently released the trailer for the Murder to Mercy documentary. The documentary is based on the life of Cyntoia’s Brown, who came into the media headlines last year after being denied support by a large number of celebrities in the Self Defense Murder Case.
In 2006, when she was 16 years old, she was picked up by a 46 year old fast food restaurant. They shot and killed the man.
However, I am currently in the process of sharing my story, in the right way, in full detail, and in a way that depicts and respects the woman I am today. While I pray that this film highlights things wrong in our justice system, I had nothing to do with this documentary. pic.twitter.com/gAACNyJksw

She described the incident as self-defense, but the court refused to listen to her and sent her to jail on charges of first-degree murder, felony murder and aggravated robbery.
In 2016, her case came to the spotlight after celebrities like Rihanna, LeBron James, and Kim Kardashian wrote her story. Her case was again heard and she was released in August 2019.
Netflix approached her to produce this famous story through a documentary and made a documentary film on it. This will be streaming soon on Netflix website.
Cyntoia Brown wrote on her twitter account “While I was still incarcerated, a producer who has old footage of me made a deal with Netflix for an unauthorized documentary, set to be released soon.”
“My husband and I were as surprised as everyone else when we first heard the news because we did not participate in any way.”
