Assam flood situation worsens, 16 deaths so far


More than 9 lakh people affected

The situation has worsened due to floods in Assam. Contact with many villages has been lost. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 9,26,059 people were affected in 23 districts including Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Udalgiri, Darrang, Nalbari, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Golpara and Kamrup as a result of the floods. The death toll in Assam so far is reported to be 16. Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah assured Assam of all possible help. Shah said that the Modi government stands firm with the people of Assam. He spoke to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday and inquired about the flood situation.

Significantly, after the monsoon reaches Assam, it has been raining for the last few days. In such a situation, the Brahmaputra river and its tributaries are flowing above the danger level in many places.

Due to this, the state has been flooded. The ASDMA reported that the district departments have established 142 relief camps and distribution centers in six districts, where more than 19,000 people have lived.
